| Thursday, 21 November, 2002, 15:44 GMT Somerset sign Laraman Somerset have signed former England Under-19s all-rounder Aaron Laraman from Middlesex on a three-year deal.
The 23-year-old played 14 first-class matches for the Lord's outfit after making his debut in 1998. Laraman was elated at making the switch to Taunton. "I am thrilled to join Somerst and am looking forward to playing alongside the likes of Andy Caddick, Richard Johnson and Marcus Trescothick," Laraman said. "They have a strong squad that should be playing in the First Division of the county championship. The priority then is to get them back up where they belong." Somerset were relegated after finishing second-bottom, while Middlesex finished second in Division Two and gained promotion. Laraman played nine championship matches in 2001, averaging 27 with the bat and taking 20 wickets at 38. His agent Simon Pavitt said: "Somerset recognise Aaron possesses bags of potential with both the bat and the ball. "I'm sure he'll make a big impact at Taunton and will prove to be a great signing." |
