Vital win eludes Notts
Paul Franks
Franks took five wickets on Sunday
County Championship D2, Trent Bridge, day four: Nottinghamshire 400-6 declared drew with Durham 132 & 153-3
Nottinghamshire 12 pts, Durham 6 pts

Nottinghamshire's chances of promotion suffered a setback when bad weather prevented them completing what looked like a certain home victory.

Durham were set to resume 115 runs in arrears with only five second wickets remaining, but the players never made it to the middle as rain swept across the ground.

Had Notts managed to win the game, they would have moved up to second place in the table.

But the draw left them fourth, 0.25 points behind Worcestershire, who they meet at Trent Bridge in their next game.

Having been bowled out in 46.3 overs in their first innings on Sunday, Durham had made a better fight of it after following on.

Gary Pratt (65) and Martin Gough (40) put on 79 for the first wicket before both fell to leg-spinner Stuart MacGill, who also had Adrian Thorpe lbw.

MacGill also had a hand in the wicket of fellow Australian Brad Hodge, who he caught off the bowling of Paul Franks for one.

Durham: M A Gough, G J Pratt, B J Hodge, G J Muchall, A M Thorpe, M J Symington, A Pratt (Wkt), I D Hunter, N C Phillips (Capt), S J Harmison, N Killeen.
