Hodge leads Durham to victory
Norwich Union League D1, Trent Bridge: Durham 232-3 (41.5 overs) beat Nottinghamshire 229-6 (45 overs)

Australian all-rounder Brad Hodge proved Durham's matchwinner as the Dynamos recorded a seven-wicket victory over the Nottinghamshire Outlaws.

Hodge made an unbeaten 91 as his side cruised past their winning target of 230 with over four overs to spare.

Hodge put in an impressive display

Hodge only arrived at the Riverside following injury to fellow countryman Martin Love (broken thumb).

Already the 27-year-old right-hander has made an impression with his second successive one-day half-century for Durham.

But he was well supported by Durham opener Ashley Thorpe (53), who registered his maiden first-class one-day half-century.

Dynamos skipper Nicky Phillips took three for 39 as the Outlaws fell away to 229 for six after wasting a flying start.

In his first Norwich Union League clash in the win over Somerset Sabres on Monday, Hodge made 77 and he also held two brilliant catches.

Earlier, Notts pair Darren Bicknell and Usman Afzaal had earlier set their side on the way with a 145-run opening stand.

Bicknell made 64 and Afzaal 75 before the Outlaws lost their way.

Encouraging progress

Bilal Shafayat went for 11 before holing out to Hodge, who held a magnificent catch at deep mid-wicket and the Australian also held a stinging return off Reid.

Andrew Pratt stumped Smith and skipper Jason Gallian (16) was run out off the last ball to leave Durham chasing 230.

Durham made encouraging progress, Michael Gough and Thorpe putting on 35 before the former fell to Paul Franks for 16.

But in came Hodge and together with Thorpe he lifted the Dynamos to 122-1 in the 21st over.

The Australian battled hard while Thorpe struck seven fours, his 53 coming off 57 balls before he was superbly run out by Bilal Shafayat's direct hit.

Dynamos' England Under-19 prospect Gordon Muchall joined Hodge in the middle and when he was dismissed, Gary Pratt then played solidly to finish undefeated on 25.
