Norwich Union League D1, Chester-le-Street: Durham 208-4 (44 ovs) beat Somerset 204-9 (45 ovs) by six wickets

In a battle between two relegated sides, Durham had Gordon Muchall and Brad Hodge to thank as they beat Somerset at the Riverside.

The 19-year-old from Newcastle and the 27-year-old from Victoria, Australia, put on 128 for the third wicket in a match-winning stand for the Dynamos.

Aussie Hodge hit eight fours in a 110-ball effort worth 77 to the team cause, while Muchall managed 81, with a six and six fours off 97 balls.

Somerset rested a number of players from the team beaten at Lord's on Saturday in the C&G Trophy final.

But Marcus Trescothick pleased the England selectors by blasting 41 off 44 balls at the top of the order, giving every indication he will be fit enough to play against India on Thursday.

Durham: M A Gough, N Peng, B J Hodge, G J Muchall, G J Pratt, M J Symington, A Pratt (Wkt), I D Hunter, N C Phillips (Capt) A M Davies, N Killeen.

Somerset: M E Trescothick (Capt), M J Wood, K P Dutch, A V Suppiah, R J Turner (Wkt), I D Blackwell, W J Durston, P D Trego M P L Bulbeck, S R G Francis, P S Jones.
