Saqlain stars for Surrey
Surrey skipper Adam Hollioake sends opposite number Robin Smith back to the pavilion
Hollioake catches Robin Smith off Saqlain
County Championship, D1, day one of four, The Oval: Hampshire 190 v Surrey

Saqlain Mushtaq returned to action for Surrey with a five-wicket haul against Hampshire at The Oval.

The Pakistani off-spinner tore through Hampshire's top order as the visitors collapsed to 190 all out.

Hampshire wicketkeeper Nic Pothas weighed in with a solid 58, but he was the only batsman to profit.

Saqlain was brought on first change and snared Jason Laney almost immediately.

Jimmy Ormond ended a promising partnership between Neil Johnson and Will Kendall by having the former caught behind by Jon Batty.

Ormond and Saqlain combined to take the first six Hampshire wickets.

Robin Smith was caught by Surrey captain Adam Hollioake off the bowling of Saqlain and Ormond combined with Batty again to dismiss John Francis.

Kendall stuck five boundaries making 36 before becoming Saqlain's third victim before Ian Salisbury got in on the act with his leg spin.

Salisbury dismissed Lawrence Prittipaul, Dimitri Mascerenhas and Shaun Udal as Hampshire subsided to 177-8.

Surrey saw the back of the stubborn Pothas, who struck a six and five fours before Saqlain deceived him.

The spinner then finished Hampshire off as Hollioake took the catch that accounted for James Hamblin.
