| Tuesday, 20 August, 2002, 09:46 GMT 10:46 UK Terry wants Hampshire job ![]() Terry was with Hampshire for 19 years Former Hampshire and England player Paul Terry has admitted he is interested in the vacant coaching position at the club. Jimmy Cook was sacked last week after poor results in the county championship and the one-day game. Terry, the ex-opening batsman who played 600 times for Hampshire over a 19-year period, said it would be a good career move. He currently has his own academy in Australia, training several English county players. Terry told BBC Radio Solent: "I'd be silly to say I wouldn't go for it because it's a step up and a good career opportunity. I definitely would be interested." Director of cricket Tim Tremlett said he would be in charge of team affairs until the new appointment was made. Hampshire won their first championship match under Tremlett on Saturday, when they beat Somerset by four wickets at the Rose Bowl. And on Sunday, Hampshire beat Essex in the Norwich Union League by five wickets. |
