County Championship, division one, Guildford: Yorkshire 172 v Surrey 207-5

Woodbridge Road was the latest venue to witness a pitiful display from the Champions who now look certain to be relegated.

Despite winning the toss, Yorkshire were bowled out in just 46 overs, Anthony McGrath producing the best individual score of 26.

Ed Giddins removed the top three batsmen, including Matt Wood second ball of the morning, while Rikki Clarke and Saqlain Mushtaq polished off the tail.

In reply, Jeremy Batty, promoted to open the Surrey innings, reached 78 not out by stumps, as the home side recovered from losing two early wickets.

Chris Silverwood took two wickets with the new ball to make it 24 for two at one stage.

But Nadeem Shahid (45) and Ali Brown (50) lent valuable support to Batty as Surrey established a lead on a day when 15 wickets went down.

Batty will be batting with his in-form captain Adam Hollioake on Thursday morning.

And if Surrey can reach something around the 300-mark, Yorkshire will be staring yet another defeat in the face.

Surrey: AJ Hollioake (capt), IJ Ward, JN Batty (wkt), MR Ramprakash, R Clarke, AD Brown, Saqlain Mushtaq, IDK Salisbury, J Ormond, ESH Giddins.

Yorkshire: DS Lehmann (capt), MJ Wood, A McGrath, MJ Lumb, VJ Craven, GM Fellows, RJ Blakey, RKJ Dawson, CEW Silverwood, AKD Gray, RJ Sidebottom, DH Wigley.
