Once the visiting team's openers had put on 49 for the first wicket, it was all Worcestershire, Kabir Ali and Andy Bichel taking four wickets apiece. Durham's top score was Gary Pratt's 34. He was the first man out - caught and bowled Bichel - and from then on Durham batsmen fell like flies. They lasted just 39.5 overs, meaning Worcestershire had most of the day left to build an imposing lead, which they did in effortless fashion. Captain Graeme Hick ended the day unbeaten on 119 off 157 balls, striking 20 fours along the way. He put on 190 for the second wicket with Anurag Singh (88).
