Kent speed to victory
Rob Key
Key guided Kent to victory with an unbeaten on 68
Norwich Union League D1, Tunbridge Wells: Kent 181-5 (34.1 overs) beat Nottinghamshire 191-9 (45 overs) by five wickets (D/L Method)

Openers Rob Key and Matthew Fleming scored half-centuries to guide Kent to a smooth victory over Nottinghamshire at Turnbridge Wells.

It was Kent's first win after two NUL games, but Notts will have to wait another day for their first win and stay anchored to the bottom after three matches.

A potentially tricky victory target, set at 179 after a rain delay, was achieved with ease, skipper Fleming hitting 64 off 44 balls and Key remaining unbeaten on 68.

Though Kent stumbled late on, losing four wickets for 26 with Nicky Boje and Kevin Pietersen taking two wickets each, the openers did more than enough to ensure victory.

After winning the toss, Jason Gallian's side failed to capitalise with each of their top eight batsmen making double-figure scores but none going on to pass 50.

Usman Afzaal fared best with 33, while 25 to Boje and 24 to Pietersen did little more than frustrate their captain after making promising starts.

James Golding finished with three for 25 for Kent, doing a fine job in stifling Nottinghamshire in the middle of their innings.

Kent: M V Fleming (Capt), R W T Key, J B Hockley, A Symonds, D P Fulton, E T Smith, J M Golding, P A Nixon (Wkt), J C Tredwell, M J Saggers, A Khan.

Nottinghamshire: D J Bicknell, J E R Gallian (Capt), N Boje, U Afzaal, P Johnson, K P Pietersen, C M W Read (Wkt), G D Clough, G J Smith, A J Harris, M N Malik.

Umpires: A A Jones and B Leadbeater
