Former Sussex captain John Barclay has been co-opted onto the county club's committee following the resignation of Don Trangmar.

"His unquestionable cricketing expertise will be a great asset to the committee and we are pleased he accepted the committee's invitation," said chairman David Green.

Barclay scored more than 9,600 first-class runs during a 16-year playing career with Sussex.

He was captain during one of the most successful periods in the club's history, leading them to second place in the County Championship in 1981 and the Sunday League title 12 months later.

Following his retirement in 1986, he had a spell as manager of the England team.

Barclay, now 48, is currently chairman of the Sussex Cricket Board.
