Mortaza facing surgery
Mashrafe bin Mortaza
Mortaza is helped from the field by his team-mates
Bangladesh fast bowler Mashrafe bin Mortaza will be out of international cricket for at least eight months.

The 20-year-old damaged his right knee during the second Test against England in Chittagong.

"MRI scans have shown he needs a full ligament reconstruction," said Bangladesh Cricket Board spokesman Mahbub Anam.

It is the second serious injury of Mortaza's career following a torn ligament in his left knee last year.

He will undergo surgery in Australia later this month.

"If there are no complications in the operation or in the recovery process, he should return to international cricket in the Champions Trophy one-day tournament in England next September," Anam added.

Mortaza is Bangladesh's most promising seam bowler and took 4-60 in the first innings in Chittagong - the best figures of his 12-Test career.

But he managed only four overs in the second innings before suffering the injury as he followed through after sending down a delivery.
