Spectators were left frustrated by the heavy rain

Rain washed out the second one-day international between New Zealand and Pakistan in Queenstown.

In all, 4.2 overs were bowled after New Zealand won the toss and elected to field after the match got under way one hour behind the scheduled time.

Pakistan were 31-0 when more rain fell and after hours of delay the match was finally abandoned at 3.30pm local time.

New Zealand lead the six-match series 1-0 with the third game taking place in Christchurch on Saturday.

Meanwhile, former New Zealand opener Matthew Bell has announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 33.

Born in Dunedin, Bell scored 729 runs in 18 Tests for the Kiwis, making his debut in 1998 before being dropped three years later. He also made seven one-day international appearances.

After more than six years in the international wilderness, he was recalled to the Test side in January 2008 and scored a century in his comeback game against Bangladesh. He lost his place after struggling against England that spring, his final Test appearance coming against Michael Vaughan's side at Napier in March 2008.
