India beat South Africa by one run to tie the series as the hosts collapsed in the second one-day international at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. Graeme Smith's 77 left the hosts needing 39 runs with five wickets left but Wayne Parnell was caught by Yuvraj Singh, one run short of India's 190. South Africa had seven overs from which to find the two runs they needed. "Our game in the back end wasn't good enough," said captain Smith. "We have to regroup." Smith, who became his nation's most capped one-day skipper, added: "The pitch was slow and stopped a bit so shot-making was difficult. But credit to India, [Lonwabo] Tsotsobe bowled incredibly well." The bowling of Tsotsobe stole the show with a career-best four for 22 in a devastating spell of limited-overs bowling earlier in the day, but Munaf Patel rivalled Tsotsobe with four wickets at the expense of just 29 runs. Smith, who went past 6,000 runs in ODIs, eventually departed for 77 - leaving the hosts needing just 39 runs with five wickets remaining. But South Africa struggled as David Miller top-edged a pull shot straight to fine leg for 27 off 28 balls before Johan Botha was controversially adjudged lbw to Zaheer Khan, even though the ball never touched his pad.  | 606: DEBATE |
Dale Steyn was then run out, leaving the hosts requiring 14 runs with two wickets remaining. But Patel removed Morne Morkel and then Parnell, who could only stare in disbelief after slashing the ball straight to Yuvraj at backward point. The series continues in Cape Town on Tuesday.
