Sehwag has scored 13 ODI centuries at an average of 34 |
India batsman Virender Sehwag will miss the one-day series in South Africa to rest a troublesome shoulder injury. However, the attacking 32-year-old opener will play in the deciding Test match starting in Cape Town on Sunday. India are keen for Sehwag to be fit for the 2011 World Cup, which starts in the sub-continent on 23 February. Rohit Sharma replaces him in the squad for the five-match one-day series in South Africa, with Test squad member Murali Vijay staying on for the series. N Srinivasan, honorary secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, said: "Virender Sehwag has been advised to withdraw from the one-day international series against South Africa to tend to his shoulder." Sehwag, who has played in 228 one-day internationals and 86 Test matches, has been named in India's preliminary squad for the World Cup. He succumbed to a third-ball duck in the first Test in South Africa but has since made scores of 63, 25 and 32.
