Mick Newell to coach on England Lions tour

Mick Newell
Newell was named director of cricket at Nottinghamshire in 2002

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell has been named as part of the England Lions coaching set-up for the forthcoming tour of West Indies.

Newell, who guided Notts to the County Championship title last season, was part of the England Under-19s coaching team for the 2009 tour of Bangladesh.

England managing director Hugh Morris said: "Mick is one of the most highly regarded coaches in our game.

"His cricketing knowledge and coaching skills will be hugely beneficial."

Newell will join a tour management group headed by ECB performance director David Parsons.

Morris added: "We are very grateful once again to Nottinghamshire for their help and support in releasing him on a short-term basis ahead of their domestic season."

The England Lions leave for the Caribbean on 24 January and return on 28 March to prepare for the domestic season.
