Newell was named director of cricket at Nottinghamshire in 2002 |
Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell has been named as part of the England Lions coaching set-up for the forthcoming tour of West Indies. Newell, who guided Notts to the County Championship title last season, was part of the England Under-19s coaching team for the 2009 tour of Bangladesh. England managing director Hugh Morris said: "Mick is one of the most highly regarded coaches in our game. "His cricketing knowledge and coaching skills will be hugely beneficial." Newell will join a tour management group headed by ECB performance director David Parsons. Morris added: "We are very grateful once again to Nottinghamshire for their help and support in releasing him on a short-term basis ahead of their domestic season." The England Lions leave for the Caribbean on 24 January and return on 28 March to prepare for the domestic season.
