Smith will recover in time for the home series against India |
South Africa captain Graeme Smith will be fit for the first test against India on 16 December. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that Smith, who fractured a finger in a one-day game against Pakistan, will recover in time for the home series. Smith has visited a hand surgeon and the CSA said it has been assured that the 29-year-old's injury is healing "within expectation". The Proteas take on top-ranked India in three tests, five ODIs and a T20 game. The CSA added that Smith's finger is to be assessed again in two weeks. | 606: DEBATE |
South Africa are due to gather on 12 December to prepare for the meeting of the world's top two Test teams. The skipper sustained a recurrence of the same injury he suffered in the first of the five one-day matches of the tour of Pakistan held in the United Arab Emirates.
