Australia regard Hussey and Bollinger as key components of the Ashes team |
Doug Bollinger and Mike Hussey will go back to Australia before the last game of the India tour to focus on the Ashes series starting in November. Cricket Australia stated Bollinger had reported "minor abdomen discomfort". The problem is not to related to an earlier injury in the same area, which ruled the bowler out of the second Test and the one-day loss in Visakhaptnam. Batsman Hussey will have a break before reappearing for Western Australia in Australia's domestic competition. Hussey hit a bright 69 on Wednesday as Australia went 1-0 down in a three-match series, which was effectively shortened to two games following last Sunday's washout in Kochi. | 606: DEBATE |
The 35-year-old left-hander hit only 99 runs in four innings in the two-Test series and Australia will be keen to get him in the right frame of mind to face England. Hussey averaged 91.60 in Australia's last home Ashes series. Bollinger, 29, a left-arm fast bowler, played well in the first Test in Mohali, before breaking down with an abdominal strain as Australia pressed for victory before being thwarted by the batting heroics of India's VVS Laxman. Both Hussey and Bollinger had their preparations for the matches in India curtailed by their involvement in the Champions League immediately prior to the tour.
