Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag are among the players left out of India's squad for the three-match one-day series against Australia.

Leading batsman Tendulkar, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, fast bowler Zaheer Khan and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha are being rested.

Batsmen Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir and paceman Ishant Sharma are undergoing treatment for minor injuries.

The first one-day international is on Sunday in Kochi.

Shikhar Dhawan is expected to partner Murali Vijay at the top of the order.

Australia have also named a weakened squad led by Michael Clarke, with regular captain Ricky Ponting, fast bowler Mitchell Johnson and all-rounder Shane Watson left out.

India eased to a seven-wicket win over the visiting Australians in Bangalore on Wednesday to seal a 2-0 Test series victory.

Ponting was forced to defend his field placings for off-spinner Nathan Hauritz during the game after criticism from Aussie spin bowling legend Shane Warne.

"How the hell can Hauritz bowl to this field?" Warne said on his Twitter page during the Bangalore Test. "Feeling for Hauritz, terrible! What are these tactics? Sorry Ricky, but what are you doing?"

But Ponting, whose next Test match will be the Ashes opener against England on 25 November, said: "Every field that Nathan has had to bowl with since he's been here has been at his request - it's the field he wants to bowl to.

"Unfortunately it doesn't appear that Shane would take the time to ask anyone about that.

"There's no doubt we will all face a bit of criticism having lost two Test matches in India. But it would be nice if they were a bit more informed before they made some of those comments."

India ODI squad: Mahendra Dhoni (capt & wk), Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Saurabh Tiwary, Ravichandran Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma.
