Third one-day international, Mirpur: Bangladesh 177-3 (40 overs) bt New Zealand 173 (42.5 overs) by seven wickets Match scorecard
Suhrawadi Shuvo took 3-14 off 10 overs |
New Zealand again had no answer to Bangladesh's spinners as the tourists slumped to a seven-wicket defeat in the third one-day international in Mirpur. After losing opener Brendon McCullum in the first over, the Black Caps had to rely on Ross Taylor (62no) to rebuild. But spin trio Suhrawadi Shuvo, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah shared seven wickets to skittle New Zealand for 173. Shahriar Nafees hit 73 as Bangladesh won with 10 overs remaining to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Like their win the opening ODI in Mirpur, this was a victory inspired by the Tigers' spinners - and only Taylor's battling 62 not out off 72 balls and an eighth-wicket stand of 72 with Kyle Mills gave New Zealand any kind of respectable total. | 606: DEBATE |
After losing the toss, New Zealand suffered an early collapse, instigated by McCullum's fourth-ball dismissal when he edged through to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim. The Black Caps eventually slumped to 101-7, with Suhrawadi Shuvo Bangladesh's star of the show with 3-14 off his 10 overs, and even Taylor and Mills's late rally failed to secure the tourists a defendable score. So it proved as Bangladesh got their run chase off to the perfect start with a 127-run opening stand between Imrul Kayes and Nafees, both eventually falling to Nathan McCullum's off-breaks. Raqibul Hasan and stand-in skipper Shakib Al Hasan saw the hosts home with little alarm, though - and, following the second one-dayer wash-out, it means Bangladesh can now no longer lose the series. Of equal significance was the fact that this was the first time they have won two consecutive ODIs against top-flight opposition in their 232-match history.
