India were bowled out for 88, their fifth lowest score in 749 one-day internationals, as New Zealand thrashed them by 200 runs in Dambulla. The Black Caps batted first in the opening match of a triangular series also involving Sri Lanka and dismissed India in 30 overs after hitting 288. Stand-in skipper Ross Taylor (95) and Scott Styris (89) put the Kiwis on top. And Daryl Tuffey's 3-34 off eight overs helped New Zealand to their biggest one-day win over India by a run margin. Taylor and Styris put on 190 for the fourth wicket to help their team set a stiff target in the day-night match and Tuffey's fast-medium bowling guided them to a resounding victory. India were already in huge trouble in the opening 12 overs of their chase when they were reduced to 50-4, with Tuffey taking three wickets and Kyle Mills one. Tuffey also had a hand in the run-out of skipper Mahendra Dhoni, who could make only two to leave his team tottering at 53-5 in the 14th over.  | 606: DEBATE |
Ravindra Jadeja (20), Virender Sehwag (19) and Dinesh Karthik (14) were the only batsmen to reach double-figures in India's dismal batting performance, with fast bowlers Mills and Jacob Oram bagging two wickets each. New Zealand had been made to weather early difficulties themselves with the bat, lurching to 28-3 after winning the toss. That was until Taylor and Styris came to their rescue with New Zealand's best fourth wicket stand in one-day internationals. Taylor looked set to complete his fourth one-day hundred when he was trapped lbw by left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra, who was the most successful Indian bowler with 4-47. India paceman Praveen Kumar did the early damage when he had opener Martin Guptill caught behind for 11 and then bowled debutant Kane Williamson for no score in his lively opening spell. But Williamson (1-2) later found himself among the New Zealand wicket-takers as the Black Caps polished off an overwhelming victory which included six slip catches, Taylor pouching four of them.
