Champions York beat Barnsley by 101 runs at Clifton Park to go top of the Yorkshire Premier League by 13 points. Dan Wilson (105), Simon Mason (70) and Nick Kay (73) led the way as York piled up 315-6 in their 55 overs. Daniel Woods then took 6-83 but Barnsley's last pair held on to reach 214-9 and deny York two extra points. York wicketkeeper Nigel Durham told BBC Radio York: "It's a fantastic win against the second-place side. The best knock was Nick Kay's 73 off 41 balls." There was drama at the end as Barnsley's last pair faced the dilemma of chasing a few more runs for a bonus point at the risk of losing their last wicket and letting York have two more points for dismissing them. "Marcus (Wood, York skipper) is an intriguing captain at times and we almost did it, we had them nine down and they were a few runs short of reaching 221 for a point," Durham added. "We were hoping to get eight points and we got six, but if we take six points for the rest of the season at Clifton Park, we'll be happy." Scarborough moved back up to third after beating Appleby Frodingham by 98 runs, but Harrogate slipped back down to 10th after a five-wicket defeat by Castleford.
