Worcestershire's Jack Shantry led Shrewsbury to the top of the Birmingham League after their opening-day win over his former club, Walsall.

Shantry hit 42 in his side's 142 all out and then he (5-38) and Rob Foster (4-28) restricted Walsall to 132.

Wellington crumbled to 83 all out at Moseley.

In division one, Richard Murrall and David Powles both hit 53 in Shifnal's 170. Brockhampton struggled to 83-7 before rain halted the game.

The weather also intervened in division two. Bridgnorth looked good on 194-9, Jack Edwards notching 58 on his league debut. Jono Whitey then took 4-52 as Aston Manor moved to 129-7 when the rain fell - Manor earning a winning draw due to a faster run rate.

For St George's, Carl Ward took 4-47 as Berkswell made 192 but in reply the Saints were swept aside for just 72, thanks mainly to a devastating 4-14 from Warwickshire prospect Tom Milnes.

Tamworth were impressive winners by three wickets against Whitchurch, chasing down a useful 197-8.

Promoted Oswestry's return to the Birmingham League saw them whipped at Fordhouses, totalling just 92 all out.

In the Shropshire Premier League Wem are early front runners with three wins out of three - their latest an eight-wicket win over Trysull and Seisdon.

Allscott beat Newport by 107 runs and Madeley defeated Shelton by four wickets.

Rain stopped play in all the other games.
