One-day international, Dhaka: India (297-4, 47.3 overs) beat Bangladesh (296-6 50 overs) by six wickets Captain Dhoni inspired his side with an unbeaten century |
Mahendra Singh Dhoni produced a captain's innings to inspire India to an exciting six-wicket win over Bangladesh in Dhaka. Bangladesh made 296-6, with Mohammad Mahmudullah and openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes all making half-centuries. Virat Kohli led the India charge before he was caught and bowled by captain Shakib Al Hasan for 91. But Dhoni's 101 and an unbeaten 51 by Suresh Raina saw India pass their target with 15 balls to spare. The hosts' decision to bat first seemed surprising considering the amount of dew on the pitch, but it was soon made to look like an inspired choice. | 606: DEBATE Amir Mir- It's Time To Break Into The Top 4 |
Tamim's 60 and 70 from Kayes got the innings off to a fine start, as Bangladesh capitalised on ragged bowling by India. The visitors' fielding was no more impressive than their bowling Harbhajan Singh's dropping a simple catch off the bowling of Ashish Nehra when Kayes was on just four runs. An opening stand of 80 came to an end when Sreesanth picked up the wicket of Tamim, thanks to a smart catch by Gautam Gambhir at short mid-wicket. Mohammad Ashraful (29) and Kayes then put on 68 for the second wicket as Bangladesh went on to record their highest-ever one-day total against a Test playing nation. India began in unspectacular fashion, with Virender Sehwag, Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh all going cheaply as they stumbled to 51-3. But the fourth-wicket pairing of Dhoni and Kohli produced 152 runs and changed the course of the game. Kohli was troubled by cramps and had to use a runner after passing 50, but managed to get within touching distance of a century before being caught out. This left Dhoni to put on 94 for the fifth wicket with Raina. The captain reached his seventh one-day century two balls before Raina brought up his own half-ton, off what was the final ball of the innings.
