The Cape Cobras will face Trinidad & Tobago in the Champions Trophy semi-final after losing Monday's final group tie against the Dehli Daredevils. Cobras opted to field but were soon on the back foot with England's Owais Shah hitting an unbeaten 39 from 38 balls and Rory Kleinveldt taking two wickets. Henry Davids hit 22 in reply with the impressive Dirk Nannes striking three times as the Cobras limped to defeat. Victoria and New South Wales battle it out in the other semi-final. Cobras skipper Andrew Puttick surprisingly decided against batting first but they performed steadily with the ball as Kleinveldt and Justin Ontong grabbed two apiece. Shah helped to finish the innings with a flourish with a dazzling 39 not out, while Dinesh Karthik scored 23 as the home side finished with a modest 114 for the loss of six wickets. The Daredevils hit back impressively with fast bowler Nannes claiming three wickets for 19, while spinners Amit Mishra, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Yogesh Nagar each claiming two wickets as the already-qualified Cobras struggled with the bat. | 606: DEBATE |
The Cobras, with Davids and Jean-Paul Duminy at the crease, recovered well but then the tide turned when Davids was run out and leg-spinner Mishra struck twice in an over to leave the score perilously on 57-5. Dilshan then returned to bowl Justin Ontong before Nannes devastated the tail with two wickets in his final over as the Daredevils eased to victory. Despite their win failing to ensure their progression, Daredevils star Nannes remained upbeat about the future of his team in this format. "I'm feeling pretty good," he said. "It was a strange game but it was good to come out of it with a win and saving a bit of pride."
