Andrew McDonald took 4-21 as Victoria eased past Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first game of the Champions League Twenty20's second phase.

Manish Pandey, in for the injured Jacques Kallis, made a rapid 39 before seamer McDonald ripped through the top order as Bangalore finished on 127-6.

Victoria's all-Australian side made quick work of chasing their target.

David Hussey showed his international class with 31 off 15 balls, smashing three successive sixes to win the game.

Four of Bangalore's five bowlers were full internationals - with veteran spinner Anil Kumble joined by compatriot Praveen Kumar and South African pair Dale Steyn and Roelof van der Merwe.

But they had little answer to Victoria's top four as the experienced Brad Hodge (25) and uncapped duo Rob Quiney (29) and Aiden Blizzard (21) laid the foundations for Hussey's late assault.

Skipper Kumble was smashed for 39 runs, including those three sixes by Hussey.

Earlier, Pandey and Rahul Dravid (33) - dropped from India's one-day squad earlier in the day - starred for Bangalore before McDonald removed them both, as well as Virat Kohli and New Zealand's Ross Taylor.

Big-hitting South African keeper Mark Boucher, batting for the first time in the tournament, also fell cheaply.

With teams carrying through points gained against the other side which qualified from their group, Victoria are already in charge of League B - which also contains Cape Cobras and Delhi Daredevils - and in pole position to reach the semi-finals.

The other second-phase group contains Somerset, Trinidad & Tobago, New South Wales and South African side Eagles.

Somerset's hopes have been hit by the loss of opener Marcus Trescothick, who flew home on Thursday because of a recurrence of a stress-related illness.
