Umpires Richard Kettleborough and Asad Rauf lead the teams out at a gloomy Trent Bridge for the fifth one-day international, with England seeking to stop Australia going 5-0 up in the series
Skipper Andrew Strauss, no doubt relieved not to be facing the rested Brett Lee, helps get England off to a steady start with clips and cuts to the boundaries after winning the toss again
But Strauss, having just smashed spinner Nathan Hauritz back over his head, attempts a reverse sweep and is out lbw for 35 off 38 balls, with the score on 61 in the 14th over
Australian bowlers Shane Watson and Peter Siddle seem to be enjoying themselves when drinks are taken after the 17th over, even though England are seemingly well set on 89-1
After Ravi Bopara departs for 18, Joe Denly produces several big hits but, after reaching 45 off 68 balls, lofts Mitchell Johnson straight to Mike Hussey's hands on the mid-wicket boundary
Matt Prior scores 37 off 44 balls, but only hits three boundaries before he is stumped by Tim Paine after being beaten by a faster delivery from the spinner Hauritz
Owais Shah follows his team-mates in making a decent start but fails to capitalise and is out caught behind for 31, and England are 192-5 off 38.1 overs
Eoin Morgan takes on the bowlers and smacks two sixes into the stands to give the long-suffering England fans plenty to cheer about as the home side look set to post their biggest total of the series
Fast bowler Johnson dives in a vain attempt to stop the impressive Morgan scoring runs off him as England build momentum during their batting powerplay
Dimitri Mascarenhas, called into the team after Luke Wright injured his toe in the nets, also gets stuck into the bowling and adds 19 off 13 balls in an entertaining knock
Morgan's third six comes from a reverse sweep a la Pietersen but he tries the same shot next ball and is caught by Peter Siddle for 58 off just 41 balls - England 272-8 from 47.3 overs
Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid (pictured above) both contribute useful runs but are both run out, with Rashid's wicket falling off the last ball of the innings as England finish on 299 all out
Ryan Sidebottom and Broad open the bowling on their home ground but Australia get off to a good start thanks to Shane Watson and Tim Paine
Tim Bresnan gets hit for four by Paine off his first delivery, but he gains revenge by having him caught for 16 later in the over, and he also dismisses Watson for 36 - Australia 76-2 off 14.4 overs
England and Ricky Ponting wait for the third umpire's verdict after Prior claims a stumping, but the Australia skipper just gets his foot back and down in time to frustrate the home side
Ponting is in majestic form, launching a straight six off Sidebottom into the third tier of the media stand to bring up his 50 off 51 balls as Australia make England toil in the field
As if Australia's serene progress isn't bad enough, Strauss's night takes a turn for the worse when he gets his fingertips in the way of a Ponting drive that races to the boundary
Ponting is untouchable and brings up his 26th one-day international century - while Strauss, his beleaguered opposite number, can only look on as his team struggles to make a breakthrough
But a wicket comes in the same over when Ponting's vice-captain Michael Clarke, having helped his skipper put on 133 in quick time, is caught on the boundary for 52, leaving his side on 209-3 off 36.3 overs
After Mascarenhas dismisses Mike Hussey, Broad removes Callum Ferguson and then Ponting, for 126 off 109 balls, to give England a glimmer of hope
But Mitchell Johnson and Cameron White see Australia home by four wickets with 10 balls remaining - Johnson finishing the match with a six - and, with two games to go, the tourists remain on course for a series whitewash
