Gillespie made his league debut against the defending champions

Former Test fast bowlers Devon Malcolm and Jason Gillespie ended on the losing side after teaming up for Brixworth in the Northamptonshire League.

Ex-Australian star Gillespie shared the new ball with club president Malcolm against the Northants Academy, who edged home by one wicket on Saturday.

Rob Newton, 19, tamed the pair with 94 including three sixes and 13 fours.

Finedon Dolben took over at the top of the table thanks to a nine-wicket victory over Northampton Saints.

And Peterborough Town slipped to second place as they held on for a draw at home to Burton Latimer.

The day's other winners in the Premier Division were Old Northamptonians and Stony Stratford, who beat Rushden and bottom club Desborough respectively.
