Eoin Morgan produced a brilliant knock against Holland on Wednesday |
Ireland batsman Eoin Morgan will miss Sunday's final at the World Cup qualifiers as he returns to his English county Middlesex on Saturday. Morgan has revealed that there was an agreement that he would leave South Africa once Ireland's World Cup qualification was secured. He will be available for Friday's final group game against Kenya. Morgan hit a superb 62-ball 76 against Holland on Wednesday which guaranteed Ireland's World Cup qualification. The Middlesex batsman paid tribute to a fine all-round team performance. "It was a great wicket to bat on," Morgan told the Irish Cricket website. "Obviously there was a bit of dew early on and our bowlers exploited it. | I enjoy playing with Ireland and I'm proud to have helped them reach another World Cup finals |
"It was good to capitalise on the conditions, and of course when we batted we were pretty professional. "Our top order has been in good form throughout the tournament, and they were never really in with a chance of defending 222." Morgan's days of representing Ireland could be numbered as he has been selected in England's provisional 30-man squad for the World Twenty20, where the Irish will also be competing. However, Morgan says his starring role against the Dutch was "a bit of a statement". "I enjoy playing with Ireland and I'm proud to have helped them reach another World Cup finals. "We've dominated everyone so far except for one game where the wicket dictated the outcome, and we're looking to win the trophy and show everyone we are the quality side that we are," added Morgan. Ireland's opponents in Sunday's final remains to be decided, with the other three qualification spots still very much in the balance.
