An unbeaten century from Kevin O'Brien helped Ireland to a 116-run victory over Oman in their second World Cup qualifier in Krugersdorp on Thursday.

O'Brien hit 101 from 91 balls and shared an unbroken partnership of 174 with Andrew White, who made 71.

Gary Wilson was next best with 46 while fellow opener William Porterfield added 32 as Ireland posted 285-4.

Oman were dismissed for 169 in 37.3 overs with Regan West taking 5-26 and Peter Connell 3-24.

White also claimed a wicket while Awal Khan was run out by Eoin Morgan.

Ireland won the toss and decided to bat first, and their impressive total proved too much for Oman.

Ireland's victory followed their seven-wicket win over Scotland in their opening Group A match at Willowmoore Park on Wednesday.

The Scots were in trouble at 24-4 after 8.1 overs and 68-5 after 21.1 overs but recovered to post 232-7 off 50 overs thanks to 121 not out by Neil McCallum.

Ireland replied with 233-3 off 37.4 overs, Porterfield top-scoring with 101 and Morgan adding 61.

The Irish take on Uganda on Saturday followed by Canada two days later.

Their final group game is against Namibia on Wednesday.
