South Africa look well placed to wrap up victory in the first Test against Bangladesh after enforcing the follow-on in Bloemfontein on day two.

The home side declared on 441-9 before dismissing the tourists for just 153 in less than three hours.

Resuming on 299-1, South Africa soon lost centurions Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla, before Ashwell Prince's timely 59 helped push the score along.

Bangladesh offered little in reply and will start day three 268 runs adrift.

The hosts wasted no time in ripping through the tourists' batting order as their bowling attack proved too strong with Bangladesh reduced to 33-3 by tea.

After the interval it was more of the same from the South Africans as Mohammad Ashraful was caught at gully by Neil McKenzie without a single run added to Bangladesh's tally.

They soon slumped to 88-8, but wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim (48) and Shahadat Hossain (23) put up a brief ninth-wicket of stand of 60 off 64 balls before Jacques Kallis wrapped up the innings.

Earlier, South Africa lost their final eight wickets for just 114 runs after the second wicket stand between Smith (157) and Amla (112) was finally ended by Mortaza.

Amla added just nine runs to his overnight total, while Smith lasted just five more balls as he was beaten by Mahbubul Alam.

Shakib mopped up South Africa's middle and lower-order as he took 5-120, before the declaration.

"The batsmen are a bit disappointed," said Shakib. "There is still a long time left. The guys have character and they will fight back, hopefully.

"They bowled in good areas and we didn't survive the good balls."

Amla dismissed suggestions that South Africa could bat again, instead of enforcing the follow-on, in order to give the middle-order more playing time ahead of next month's tour of Australia.

He said no discussions had taken place and that all his team were just interested in doing was wrapping up the victory.

"You don't take anything lightly in Test cricket," said Amla.

"The ideal situation is to try and win the game as quickly as possible."
