A bit of Shropshire cricketing history is being celebrated at London Road, Shrewsbury this weekend. It is 25 years since they won the National Knockout at Lord's, and club chairman Andy Barnard, himself an '83 veteran, has invited the old side back. Team-mates like former Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Ken Mulhearn and Steve Gale, now a leading umpire, are attending. Coventry City stopped another ex-Town keeper, Steve Ogrizovic, from playing - but Barnard used his bat and hit a six! "The day at Lord's is a bit of a blur, but the celebrations went on loud and long," Barnard told BBC Radio Shropshire. "We're a close-knit club, and some in the 1983 side have never gone away. "Harold Banks still plays for the third XI, and Bill Davies is our groundsman." Shrewsbury are using the backdrop of their Birmingham League fixture with county rivals Wellington for their big day - "a celebration of what both clubs have achieved over the years too," added Barnard.
