Shropshire title hopes washed out

Shropshire cricket

Heavy rain finally killed off Shropshire's lingering hopes of cliaming the Minor Counties title.

Having set Wales 399 to win at Abergavenny, they had the hosts struggling on 81-3, but the whole of the final day was lost to the weather.

"The weather's been disappointing this year, but we never realised our true potential either," secretary Neville Birch told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"We had high hopes, but for whatever reason we never really got going."

Shropshire's season ends with a final three-day game away to Devon.

"The pressure's off, and everyone is determined to go out on a high," Birch added.
