Ireland celebrated victory in the European Championship |
Ireland beat Scotland by seven wickets in a rain-affected match at Clontarf to retain the European Championship Division One title. The match was decided on the Duckworth/Lewis method after the Irish reached 129-3 in 23.5 overs in reply to Scotland's 152-9 off 35 overs. Kyle McCallan's superb figures of three for 10 included two stumpings while Scotland captain Ryan Watson scored 50. For Ireland, Gary Wilson scored 51 and Andre Botha was 47 not out. Gavin Hamilton, Watson's opening partner, was Scotland's next highest scorer with 21 as the Irish attack - inspired by McCallan - stemmed the runs. William Porterfield fell to John Blain for just one to give the Scots hope but despite two further breakthroughs they never looked likely to take the title.
