St Austell get out of last place

St Austell provided the biggest shock of the day as they took the scalp of second placed Falmouth to move off the bottom of the Cornwall Premier League.

Simon Ellison took four wickets as St Austell bowled out Falmouth for 208 before they posted 212-4 in reply to claim a six-wicket victory.

Daniel Jarman hit an unbeaten 69 and Matthew Rowe got 68 to guide St Austell to only their second win of the season.

Newquay moved up to fifth in the table after beating Paul by 98 runs.

Paul, who drop to fourth having been second in the table a few weeks ago, failed to get anywhere with the bat.

Newquay opened with 202 all out, with Barry Purchase leading the way with 94.

But in reply Paul could only muster 104 all out off 38 overs as Neil Ivamy and Robert Harrison both took three wickets.

Grampound Road are the new bottom side after going down at home to Cornwall capital city rivals Truro by nine wickets.

Aaron Pennell took 5-34 and Tom Sharp claimed 4-11 as Grampound were bowled out for just 100 off 35.4 overs.

Truro easily reached their target, scoring 101-1 off 15.5 overs, with Christopher Martin scoring 47 not out.

The big winners of the day were St Just, who increased their lead at the top of the table to 41 points after a six-wicket win at Werrington.

Mark Hodgson hit 89 not out as Werrington made 178-9 off their 55 overs.

St Just made their target for the loss of four wickets as David Roberts hit 63 and Neil Curnow scored 62.
