Panesar says spinners have a big role to play in Twenty20 |
England spin bowler Monty Panesar says he is thrilled by the thought of Sir Allen Stanford's 50m Twenty20 series and he is keen to be part of it. He told BBC Sport that spin bowlers had a special role to play in the game. "In the first Twenty20 games, spinners were the first bowlers used who took most of the wickets so it shows what a huge role they have to play," he said. "The best 15 players who get selected deservedly get the chance to play and hopefully I can be part of it." He also rejected claims that the unprecedented prize money could lead to a divide among players. "Cricket is always going to be a team game, not an individual game like tennis or golf, and to be successful you've got to be together as a team," he said. | 606: DEBATE | Panesar also revealed his enthusiasm for playing Test cricket was a result of having grown up playing club cricket in poor conditions, and he remained confident that the five-day format would not lose its appeal. "Test cricket has always been the ultimate dream for every cricketer - that's still going to be the number one," he said.
