The Channel Islands lost to Somerset by 42 runs in their second ECB Counties over-50's cricket championship match. Somerset set a difficult target of 219-8 with David Stephenson top scoring with 52 runs as Islands skipper Ralph Anthony took 4-36. In reply the Channel Islands got off to a dreadful start, at one point they were struggling at 28-5 before rallying to a total of 177-9. John Taylor top scored for the Islands with 61. Taylor formed the backbone of the Channel Islands innings, putting on a stand of 43 with Anthony for the sixth wicket and a partnership of 81 with Greg Sykes, who got 45 not out, for the seventh wicket. The Channel Islands have one win from two matches after previously beating Cornwall. It was Somerset's first win in the group from two matches, their first match against Cornwall was rained off.
