Skipper Bryan Jones led from the front with an unbeaten 71 as Shifnal lifted themselves out of the Birmingham League Premier Division's bottom three. Gary Putland took 5-43, supported by Jono Whitney (3-21), as Shifnal beat Leamington by seven wickets. A first league win for Shropshire's only Birmingham League top flight club made up for Saturday's disappointing local derby defeat at Wolverhampton. Shifnal were bowled out for 191 by Wolves, who won by four wickets. In Division One, Shrewsbury were in fine form on Saturday, their 323-3 proving enough to beat Halesowen by 123 runs. But the Bank Holiday Monday trip to Coventry was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Wellington went down to a five-wicket defeat at Old Hill, Simon Harding top scoring with 36 after the visitors were bowled out for 177. But, on Monday, Wellington were delighted to see the rain fall after being bowled out for 91 at Harborne. In reply, Harborne were 47-0 and steaming to victory at Old Church Avenue when the game was abandoned. In Division Two, Newport (122) lost their Shropshire derby with St Georges (124-8) by two wickets. But Newport's second game of the Bank Holiday weekend against Penn also went the way of the weather. Play was abandoned with Newport on 77 for 1 chasing Penn's 195 all out, Rasike Priyadarshana taking four for 73. St Georges then made it two wins in a row with a 10-wicket victory against Aston Unity, after bowling them out for 75. In Division Three, Bridgnorth (177) lost by five wickets on Saturday at Olton (182-5). And their Bank Holiday Monday match was abandoned at Kington, who were winners by eight wickets at Oswestry on Saturday. Newcomers Oswestry were bowled out for 144 at Morda Road, Kington getting home for the loss of just two wickets. In their second game of the weekend, Oswestry held on for a losing draw at Coventry against Bablake Old Boys. Whitchurch (125) lost by 75 runs at Studley on Saturday before managing only a losing draw on Monday in a high-scoring game at home to Wombourne. Chasing 224-8, Whitchurch fell only just short on 214-9, thanks to Maisam Hasnain (73) and and Ijaz Yousuf (42).
