Japan scored 124-8 in their innings

Jersey made it two wins out of two when they beat Japan by eight wickets in the World Cricket Division Five Tournament.

The match was replayed on Sunday at Les Quennevais after rain forced play to be abandoned after 27 overs on Saturday.

Japan won the toss and elected to bat, where they notched up 124-8 in their allotted 50 overs, with the home side refusing to give away runs easily.

In reply, Jersey eased their way to their target 125 in 34.1 overs, losing just two wickets along the way.

The first fell when Steve Carlyon was caught behind in the 11th over and the second went in the 23rd when the captain was caught having chalked up a respectable 27.

It was another strong outing for opening batsman Peter Gough, who was top scorer on 59 not out.

But it was not just in the batting that Jersey dominated. The home side displayed some tight bowling and solid fielding as Japan struggled to score.

Jersey captain Hague was named Man of the Match

Jersey captain Matty Hague claimed an economical 4-26.

He told BBC Radio Jersey: "I think we were very good today, it was nice to follow up with a winner after Singapore, really happy. It was a good win."

Peter Kirsten, Jersey coach, said he was pleased with his team's all-round performance.

"Very happy with the fielding. Two run-outs today, we've been working very hard for that," he said.

"Peter Gough was in great form with the bat, another not out half-century so that's just beautiful."

Japan's coach Richard Laidler said he was not worried his side had lost their first two matches of the tournament.

"We'll have a crack at anyone, we've come over here for a challenge and we've stood up against probably the best two teams so far, so I think we might give the other ones a run for their money."

Jersey are second in Group B, behind Afghanistan on run rate with both sides having maximum points so far.

Jersey are next up against the Bahamas at the FB Fields on Monday.
