Peter Kirsten says a number of teams could win WCL Division Five |
Jersey coach Peter Kirsten insists that the World Cricket League Division Five tournament looks wide open. The former South Africa Test batsman rates Nepal, Afghanistan and Norway as being among the top sides, but concedes it can be hard to tell. "You're coming in blind into it," Kirsten told BBC Jersey. "All you can do is read up on websites and talk to people who've seen them play." Jersey host the 12-team event which begins on Friday (22 May). "Nepal are good," said Kirsten. "I saw them play the other day and they look a nice team. "Afghanistan are making a big statement so they look a pretty good outfit and Norway. To me, those three come to mind." But he says Jersey, who came second in European Division Two to Norway two years ago and recently got Associate member status from the ICC after beating Italy in a series of one day internationals last year, also have a great chance on home soil if they can do the basic things well. "In any game you play, it doesn't matter who it is, you've got to go there with a good attitude, " added Kirsten. "The attitude to do the basics properly and play decent cricket." Jersey face Singapore in their opening match at Grainville on Friday.
