The ICC World Cricket League Division Five tournament started in Jersey on Friday with the opening group matches. It is the biggest international cricket tournament ever to be staged in the Channel Islands. Hosts Jersey open their account against Singapore in Group B at Grainville while Afghanistan face Japan and the Bahamas play Botswana. In Group A, the USA play Mozambique, Nepal face Germany and Norway take on Vanuatu.

The top two sides in each group will make the semi-finals, with the winners gaining promotion to Division 4.
They will face Hong Kong, Fiji, Italy and hosts Tanzania in the WCL Division Four tournament in Dar Es Salaam from 4-11 October. The top two sides will then be promoted to Division Three. The eventual goal is qualification for the Cricket World Cup. The top four sides in Division One will join the 10 full ICC members for the next World Cup in the Indian sub-continent in 2011.
