Norfolk lost their first Minor Counties one-day match when Staffordshire won by 132 runs at Manor Park. Norfolk must now win their final group game in the MCCA Trophy if they are to make the quarter-finals. Staffordshire made 321 for 4 from their 50 overs, with the Norfolk reply in the 43rd over on 189. Chris Borrett (47) and Stephen Gray (51) shared a fifth wicket stand of 84, skipper Carl Rogers made 31, Norfolk are away to Northumberland next week. | If we can get players fit again and take as strong a side as we can get there's no reason we can't beat them |
Rogers admitted after Sunday's match that they were always going to struggle to reach such a big total. "When you're chasing 322 you can't have any tight overs, you have to go for it from the start. Consequently after 15 overs we were four wickets down," he said. Rogers also insists he is confident Norfolk can make the difficult trip to Morpeth on Sunday and get a result. "It's always a tough game when you go up north, but if we can get players fit again and take as strong a side as we can get there's no reason we can't beat them," he added. "They got into the final last year, and they also need the win to qualify so there's everything to play for."
