Newly appointed Norfolk captain Carl Rogers has promised a positive approach at the start of the new season.

Norfolk will begin their bid for a return to Lord's on Sunday against Hertfordshire at Manor Park.

And Rogers, 37, said: "I'm really looking forward to it, the captaincy has opened the door to different things for me, it's a breath of fresh air.

"In the 20 years since I started we've always been slow starters, but I think we're strong enough to get over that."

Downham seamer Addam Todd will make his competitive Norfolk debut in the game against Hertfordshire.

The 22-year-old took 45 wickets for the Norfolk Alliance champions last season.

"Addam has been impressive, he's a slippery bowler, he's quicker than you think, he can catch you off guard," said Rogers.

The bowling change has been brought about by the unavailability of Paul Bradshaw, who was sacked as Norfolk skipper during the winter.

"We all know Brads is a good Minor Counties player, but he's made his choices. It's a shame but we'll just have to go on without him," added Rogers.

Norfolk will go into the season opener with two spinners. Former Leicestershire left-armer George Walker will return to the side, along with off-spinner and coach Chris Brown.

Fakenham wicket-keeper Stephen Gray has been selected after the retirement of Luke Newton. Gray has played first-class cricket already this season for Cambridge University against Somerset.
