Promoted Shifnal have targeted a high finish in their second season in the Birmingham League premier division.

But Shifnal skipper Bryan Jones feels Shropshire cricket will miss out in having just one team there following Wellington's relegation last September.

"We're disappointed not to have Wellington and Shrewsbury with us," he said. "That would show what good health Shropshire cricket is in.

"We've got some good clubs, and it's a shame it's left to us to fly the flag."

Shifnal, who finished fourth in last summer's debut in the top flight, go into the new campaign full of confidence.

Veteran Jones leads a strong batting side that includes the likes of Shropshire skipper James Ralph and two other Minor Counties regulars, Asif Sultan and Johnno Whitney.

"They're all match winners who can change a game," said Jones.
