Lincolnshire began their Minor Counties Knockout Trophy campaign with a nail-biting one wicket victory over Cambridgeshire at Woodhall Spa.

Having seen the visitors make 192-8, Lincolnshire looked set for defeat after slumping to 129-9.

Elliot Wilson and Andy Carter then put on a last wicket stand of 67.

With 11 runs needed from the last three balls, Wilson hit a six, then picked up four byes before reaching the boundary with the final ball of the innings.

Former skipper Matthew Dowman top-scored for Lincolnshire with 74, but a middle order collapse saw them go from 79-3 to 129-9 with 16 overs remaining.

But wicket-keeper Wilson (44no) and pace bowler Carter (16no) steered them home by the narrowest of margins.

After his first game as county captain, Rob Cook told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "When Andy went out to bat we were waiting for the inevitable really.

"But they did ever so well and we got out of jail."
