Proteas ease to win over Windies

One-day International, Durban: South Africa 266-5 (47.5 overs) beat West Indies 263-9 (50 overs)

It was an emotional and successful match for Pollock
Shaun Pollock hit the winning runs in his final match on his home ground in Durban as South Africa beat West Indies by five wickets at Kingsmead.

Pollock struck a four off Dwayne Bravo as the Proteas won with 13 balls to spare to move 4-0 up with one match of their one-day series left to play.

AB de Villiers played the key innings, striking 77 off 86 balls.

Jerome Taylor hit an undefeated 43 off 21 balls as West Indies recovered from a middle-order slump to reach 269-9.

West Indies started well after winning the toss and opting to bat first, putting on 97 for the first wicket before Sewnarine Chattergoon was caught behind off the bowling of Pollock for 48.

Brenton Parchment fell lbw to Andre Nel for the same score three runs later and the visiting team had slumped to 158-5 after 40 overs of their innings.

Patrick Browne helped to generate momentum with two fours off the 41st over, delivered by Makhaya Ntini, but was eventually dismissed after striking 34 from 24 deliveries.

West Indies were 206-9 when Fidel Edwards joined Taylor at the crease for an unbeaten final-wicket partnership of 57 in 33 balls.

The duo plundered 24 from the final over by Ntini, who finished with figures of 1-80 from nine overs on his recall to the team after missing his team's previous five one-day fixtures.

The home team set about the chase with relish, skipper Graeme Smith striking 50 off 37 balls and Herschelle Gibbs making 39.

Jacques Kallis, a centurion in the previous match, fell after scoring just one - and was the only South African who failed to reach double figures.

JP Duminy struck 44 and Boucher finished unbeaten on 21 but in truth the day belonged to Pollock, who was playing in his 302nd one-day international.

The crowd stood and applauded while the West Indies formed a guard of honour for Pollock as he left the pitch after striking the winning runs through point.

Pollock, who bowled with his usual economy, taking 1-38 from 10 overs, will retire after Sunday's final international in Johannesburg.
