One-day International, Cape Town: South Africa 255-9 (50 overs) beat West Indies 169 (48.2 overs) by 86 runs
South Africa skipper Smith hit 11 fours to top score in the first innings |
Graeme Smith guided South Africa to an emphatic 86-run victory over West Indies in the second one-day match.
Jerome Taylor had South Africa reeling on 18-2 but captain Smith hit a fiery 86 with JP Duminy adding 68 as the home side posted a decent total of 255.
Shaun Pollock's figures of 2-13 and Morne Morkel's 4-36 meant the West Indies never got going before being bowled out for 169 off 48.2 overs.
South Africa hold a 2-0 lead with the next game in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who bruised his knee during the match, top-scored for the West Indies with 54 although he only came in at number five.
Having lost the toss, the West Indies were given encouragement early on when Taylor had Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis caught for five and seven respectively.
But Smith combined with AB de Villiers to put in 91 for the third wicket.
Shaun Pollock, who was playing his final one-dayer in Cape Town before retiring, was given a reception worthy of a century despite only adding 12 runs to the total, and West Indies must have taken heart from taking three wickets in the final over.
But tight bowling by the home side, including five maidens from Pollock, which drew a standing ovation, ensured the West Indies never threatened to win.
Apart from Chanderpaul, only two other batsmen scored more than 20 runs, with six of them only making single figures.
