World Cricket League, Nairobi: Scotland 207-8 (37 overs) beat Netherlands 205 (36.5 overs) by two runs Hoffmann cleaned up the Dutch tail |
Scotland moved a step closer to a place in the ICC World League final with a two-run win over the Netherlands.
They took three three wickets in the final over, bowled by Paul Hoffmann, as the Dutch were all out for 205.
Scotland earlier made 207-8 in a game reduced to 37 overs a side by rain, with opener Fraser Watts making 58.
The Dutch slumped to 128-7 in reply before a stand of 76 between Billy Stelling and Peter Borren set up what proved to be a thrilling climax.
When Hoffmann was handed the ball at Nairobi's Jaffery Stadium, just six runs were needed but after each batsman picked up a single, he had Stelling caught at mid-off for 45 from his third delivery.
The next led to Borren being run out for 30 and two balls later Hoffmann finished things off by bowling Edgar Schiferli for a duck to finish with figures of 3-33.
Skipper Craig Wright also bowled well for his 3-38 after Darron Reekers had given the Netherlands a flying start to their run chase by hitting 37 off 20 balls.
And Wright also made a vital 17 off 15 balls at the tail-end of Scotland's innings as he, Colin Smith (26 not out) and John Blain (15 not out) carried the total past 200.
Only Scotland and hosts Kenya have a 100% record after three rounds of matches, but that will change on Sunday with the two sides set to meet each other.
