Chanderpaul's brilliant innings kept the Windies in with a chance |
India captain Rahul Dravid saluted Shiv Chanderpaul's magnificent 149 that came within 14 runs of denying his team victory in the opening one-day clash. "We knew we had the game in control but when a batsman plays as well as he was, you never know," Dravid said.
"It was one of the better innings I have seen played, especially in India."
Brian Lara praised the Nagpur pitch and said: "We are entertainers and hope the pitches are like this in the Caribbean in the World Cup so fans enjoy games."
Chanderpaul described his knock as "one of the very best of my career" but was surprised India did not include an extra spinner in their side.
"Had there been a third spinner we would have been in trouble," he said.
Ganguly added that the remainder of the series was not likely to produce similarly high-scoring contests.
"The last time we played at Cuttack, the pitch was slow and tricky," he said. "Chennai being a day-night game, we'll have to take the dew factor into account, and Baroda usually helps the bowlers early on, so we're playing in different zones and things maybe different."
