Third Test, Karachi, day five: Pakistan 304 & 399-6d bt West Indies 260 & 244-9 by 199 runs Younis congratulates Kaneria, who took key wickets on the final day |
Pakistan completed a 2-0 series win over West Indies after wrapping up the third Test by 199 runs in Karachi.
The Windies resumed on 39-2, chasing a notional 444, and were progressing solidly until until Umar Gul had captain Brian Lara (49) caught.
Ramnaresh Sarwan (35) then retired after a Gul yorker hit his foot.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul struck his 40th Test half-century but was the first of two wickets in two balls for Danish Kaneria in the second over after tea.
Lara and Sarwan had looked comfortable in an 80-run stand and the skipper was in sublime form, playing some beautiful drives in a 92-ball knock which featured nine fours.
But Lara perished off the first ball after a five-minute delay because of a problem with the sightscreen, failing to check his drive and finding Shoaib Malik in the covers.
Seventeen balls later Gul floored Sarwan with a vicious inswinging delivery and the batsman was helped off.

Morton should then have been run out from the first ball he faced as he played it straight to Abdul Razzaq at wide mid-wicket and set off for a suicidal single.
He did not last long, however, and after smashing Kaneria for two fours and a six in the previous over saw the leg-spinner snap up a return catch.
After lunch, Chanderpaul extended his partnership with Dwayne Bravo to 57 before the all-rounder chased a wide delivery from Shahid Nazir and was well caught low at second slip by Younis Khan.
The obdurate left-hander had reached 69, which contained nine fours, when Kaneria turned one in to trap him on the pads and umpire Daryl Harper despatched him to the pavilion.
A googly accounted for Daren Powell next ball, Younis claiming a sharp catch to his right after the ball brushed bat and glove.
Razzaq squared up Jerome Taylor and then produced a similar delivery to last man Corey Collymore, angling the ball in and then finding some late swing away for another lbw decision.
With a minimum of 27 overs remaining and Sarwan unable to continue that was to be the last action.
