West Indies began a gritty fight to stay in the third Test after losing six wickets on day two in Karachi.

Daren Ganga stood firm with an unbeaten 77, while paceman Umar Gul and spinner Danish Kaneria shared the spoils on a difficult batting wicket.

He and Dwayne Bravo put on 37 in 18 overs but Bravo fell to Kaneria late on, West Indies going to stumps 191-6.

Pakistan, who began the day 257-7, were bowled out in the first hour, Corey Collymore taking 3-57.

Shahid Nazir was bowled in the second over of the day by Daren Powell.

Collymore then uprooted Kamran Akmal's middle stump with the first delivery of the second new ball before a battling last-wicket stand of 32 from 46 balls between Gul (26) and Danish Kaneria.

Gul took three wickets in 10 balls with his second spell after lunch.

He dismissed Chris Gayle (40) driving uppishly to mid-on, where Abdul Razzaq juggled with the ball before taking it on the second chance.

Gayle, who was dropped off Gul by Farhat before lunch on 12, hit six boundaries.

Two balls later Gul produced a beautiful inswinger which beat the forward push of Brian Lara's bat and sent off-stump cart-wheeling for a duck.

In the next over he yorked Ramnaresh Sarwan, hitting the middle stump to leave the West Indies struggling at 51-3.

Ganga added 63 for the fourth wicket with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (36) and another 39 for the fifth with Runako Morton (21).

Smart catches close to the wicket by Imran Farhat off Kaneria removed both men.
